Beauty on a Budget

You are imperfect, permanently and inevitably flawed. And you are beautiful.

Make up has become something I really enjoy doing and it gives me that extra boost of confidence, particularly on a night out! However, as a student, it can get quite pricey so I am sharing my favourite make up products that won’t break the bank from my own personal routine!

Primer

Choosing the right primer is a lot about your skin type so this primer will not work for everyone. However, my skin can get quite oily and has large pores and I have found that the Maybelline Baby Skin Pore Eraser primer does wonders to eliminate them showing. It’s a much cheaper alternative to Benefit’s The Porefessional Primer which is usually around £22.40, whereas this one from Maybelline comes in at £7.99 and I find them both to do the same thing!

Foundation

My favourite foundation on a budget is Collection’s Lasting Perfection Foundation which honestly does what it says on the label! It lasts on my skin all day and provides excellent coverage without being too oily which is perfect for me. It’s also only £5.99 and the bottle usually lasts for a while so a great bargain for what you get.

Concealer

Similar to the foundation, the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer also provides great coverage and is water resistant, lasting all day. I have been using this for years and I find it super easy to blend in with the rest of my make up so it is a staple piece in my every day make up routine. Also at £4.19 it is a great alternative to many other more expensive concealers out there.

Powder

So this one is a little more expensive at £9 but still very cheap in comparison to other setting powders from bigger brands. I absolutely had to include this either way as the Nyx HD Finishing Powder completely gets rid of any make up lines or appearance of pores and also helps to eliminate shine. Even though it looks completely white, the powder is fully translucent so you don’t have to worry about finding the right colour. It also gives your make up a lovely matte finish so it’s definitely worth giving it a try. It’s also cruelty free and vegan!

Brows

The Rimmel Brow this Way Palette is great for shaping your brows. It comes with both a powder and a cream so it’s a lot easier to achieve the shape you want using this kit. It also comes with a small angled brush and spooley to apply the product and you get all of this for only £4.99. The kit lasts for a long time as you don’t need much product to achieve a full looking brow so I would definitely recommend this.

Eyeshadow

I have to say that when it comes to eyeshadow I am a huge fan of the Naked Palettes, however they are expensive and so when I want a really good alternative I will definitely turn to Nyx. The Warm Neutrals Petite Palette offers the browns and beiges that I love to use and doesn’t break the bank, costing only £7. This is the best alternative that I’ve found and I will still use it regularly. To further save money, I always use the darkest brown as an eyeliner so I have no need to purchase one separately.

Mascara

My all time favourite mascara is Maybelline Lash Sensational as it completely transforms my lashes. It gives so much volume, texture and captures even the tiniest of lashes to give a really full look around the eyes, particularly as it is a jet black colour. It’s only £8.99 and lasts for ages too!

Contour

Another Nyx product called the Nyx Contour Wonder Stick which is super easy to use and is especially good if you’re new to contour. The creamy texture makes it easy to blend in and it doubles with a highlighter as well so you can really sculpt your face. For me, this is my go to contour product, regardless of being on a budget or not, I absolutely love it!

Blush

When I’m looking for blush on a budget, I normally turn to L’Oreal’s True Match Blush as it comes in three different shades, depending on what your skin tone is. I also love the fact it has a shimmer to it so can double as a bit of highlight which is perfect for a summer glow! I usually opt for the pink shade as my skin has a cooler tone to it but there are warmer shades too which are equally pretty!

Highlight

Revolution do a fantastic highlighter called Highlight Reloaded that has a variety of shades, depending on the look you want to achieve. It gives an amazing shimmer on your face even with using only small amounts and at only £3, it’s a true bargain for what you’re getting. It’s even fairly pigmented so you can achieve quite a dramatic look if that is what you want to go for.

Setting Spray

The Elf Mist and Set Spray is my favourite setting spray of all time. I love the way it hydrates the skin even when you have make up on and it helps it to last all throughout the day. It also makes your foundation look so much better by giving it a really nice finish. It’s great to use this if you’re not really confident about blending because it mists all your make up to create a truly seamless look. It’s also only £5!

Lips

My favourite lip products on a budget definitely come from Nyx yet again! The liquid suede collection allows you to apply the product like a gloss and then quickly changes to a matte texture after you’ve put it on which is amazing! The finish is incredible and there are so many different colour options and corresponding lip pencils if you want to go for a fuller look. It’s also the longest lasting lip product that I have ever used and I hardly have to reapply throughout the day.

Brushes

My favourite make up brushes definitely come from Real Techniques. You can either buy them individually or in sets and considering you can get the whole Everyday Essentials Kit for £20, the price is pretty good for what this actually includes. Alternatively, buying just one or two brushes also works and saves on money. I have to say though that the quality of the brushes is second to none and I hardly ever use any other brushes when applying my make up.

So these are the products that work best with my skin and obviously this will vary depending on your skin’s needs and personal preference. My overall favourite company is Nyx as the products are such good quality and aren’t unreasonably priced either. However, I definitely recommend shopping around until you find the right products for you as this doesn’t always have to come from high end brands and you can save yourself a lot of money! XOX
